Abortion: The Wrong Choice

Nearly half of all pregnancies among American women are unintended, and four in 10 of these are terminated by abortion (Guttmacher Institute, Incidence of Abortion, May 2010). For women ages 15-44, two out of every one hundred have an abortion. Out of these, 48% have had one or more abortions already. For women choosing abortion, 52% are under the age of 25. Teenagers account for 19% and women 20-24 account for 33%. The majority of women who choose abortion have already given birth. Mothers who have had one or more children comprise over 60% of all abortions (Guttmacher Institute, Top 10 Abortion facts and Abortion Statistics, May 2006). Regardless of where you stand or believe, the totality of the numbers and percentages are staggering and these are only the numbers that are reported. If you would take these numbers and put them anywhere else, such as spousal abuse, this would be a national headline. Our country would be up at arms trying to bring these numbers down. Yet it is quietly going on and we as a country allow it. When it comes to rape and incest, I believe the mother should have the right to make the choice. Other than that, Abortion should be made illegal, because a fetus is a growing organism like a baby, no person has a right to take another's life, and an unborn baby cannot make the decision to live or die.

While some view abortion as something people should be able to choose, others say abortion is a great evil, which is destroying the moral fabric of society Cline (2010).
