Argument Essay: Michael Vick
I chose to write my argument for Michael Vick, whom I feel is seen as “bad” but should deserve a second chance. Michael Vick is an American football quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles of the National Football League. He played for the Atlanta Falcons for six seasons before jailed in 2007 for his role in illegal dog fighting. Former number one draft pick by the Atlanta Falcons in 2001, Vick is an outstanding athlete. He signed one of the largest contracts $130 million plus a $37 million signing bonus for 10 years in sports history. He also drafted in the 30th round of the MLB Draft by the Colorado Rockies in 2000, despite not playing baseball in college. He won the ESPY for Top College Player in 2000.
Michael Dwayne Vick was born on June 26, 1980, in Newport News, Virginia. According to American Sports Outlet article "Michael Vick Biography", Vick's father began teaching him the fundamentals of football when he was just three years old. Although he is right-handed, he started throwing the football with his left hand, which he still does today. Michael Vick was a football star at Warwick High School. Turning down an offer to go to Syracuse University, Vick chose to stay closer to home and sign on with Virginia Tech in nearby Blacksburg. Michael Vick began playing college football at Virginia Tech in 1998. He led the Hokies to the National Championship Game against Florida State in 1999 and finished his college career with an amazing 20-1 record as a starter. His outstanding speed, arm strength, and ability to elude tackles led the Atlanta Falcons to pick him first overall in the 2001 NFL draft. Vick's reward for turning pro was a six-year, $62 million contract that included a $15 million signing bonus. Vick made his NFL debut at San Francisco on September 9, 2001 and saw limited action. After playing as a backup in his rookie year, Michael Vick became the Falcons' starter in 2002 and was one of front runners to win the NFL MVP...
