Throughout this suspense filled play, there are many messages that i believe Shakespeare is trying to portray, but ambition is one of the most prominent. In William Shakespeare’s “Macbeth,” he portrays a message that i think he is trying to say is that when ambition goes untouched by our moral values, that in the end it will completely break people.
Ambition is strongly shown in the main character, Macbeth, but also through Lady Macbeth. These two characters are a prime example of how ambition will soon catch up to you and destroy you in the end. Starting off with Macbeth, his first ambitions began with the prophecies he was given by the witches. From then on, Macbeth had the thought of killing Duncan running through the back of his mind. Deep down Macbeth did not want to kill Duncan, but when the thought came across him he realized that it might be a possibility. This became a very possible when he sent a letter to his wife about the prophecies he was given by the witches. When Lady Macbeth heard the news, she continued to push Macbeth into killing Duncan. I think this was the only way for her to satisfy her ambition. After Macbeth’s murders, he was able to deal with the consequences a lot better than Lady Macbeth. In order for him to keep himself together, Macbeth tells himself that “life’s but a walking shadow.” (Act 5, Scene 5) Since Macbeth thinks he can get away with anything and that nothing he does really matters, this starts to catch up with him. Malcolm is able to gain the throne from Macbeth and bring peace back to Scotland by exposing Macbeth’s personality and actions.
Since Macbeth is portraying new emotions from his past murders, he is becoming and also acting very differently. I can see in Scene 3 of Act 3 that Macbeth is becoming very paranoid when the murderers were waiting to murder Banquo and Fleance. One of the murderers said, “ He needs not our mistrust; since he delivers our offices, and what we have to do.”   This shows that even though...
