Being a father is one of the best things a man can experience in his life, I have had the privilege of such an experience twice now, and I am so grateful to God for blessing me with two beautiful daughters. I remember the day I first experienced the miracle of life; I remember that day like it was yesterday. It was a Sunday, around two o’clock in the morning, when my wife woke me up and told me “I think I am having the baby”. I was half asleep and replied “really, right now”; she answered “yes, I am in so much pain, so we need to go the hospital now” and that was the beginning of it all. Despite all of the preparation and the classes my wife and I went through during her pregnancy, I had never felt so nervous and unprepared when it was really happening. However, I knew that I had to take her to the hospital, it was only twenty minutes away, and at two thirty in the morning, there was not much traffic; but with my wife screaming and yelling at me to hurry up, it felt like an hour trip.
When we finally got the hospital, the nurse took her to a room to check to see if she was really in labor. I remember the nurse coming out of the room and said to me “she is ready to have the baby; I need to page the doctor.” My heart was beating so fast, it was ready to leap out of my chest, I think I was more nervous than my wife, but excited at the same time. At that moment, all I could think about was situations like this in movies, when a woman is giving birth, and the man pass out cold in the delivery room. I was worried that I would end up on the floor; all I wanted was for everything to be over already, so I could hold my daughter. When I saw my wife suffering, it made me think about my mother. My parents have been married for thirty nine years and had ten children. I could only imagine what my mother went through delivering ten children.
