Within S.744 of Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act (Sec. 3) Prohibits the Secretary of Homeland Security from processing applications for registered provisional immigrant status, as established by this Act, until the Secretary has submitted to Congress the notice of commencement of implementation of the Comprehensive Southern Border Security Strategy and the Southern Border Fencing Strategy. In title 2 dealing with immigrant visas, it requires an alien applicant to satisfy federal tax liabilities and security and law enforcement clearances. The bill’s sponsor is Democrat Charles E. Schumer a representative of New York.
A positive impact immigration has on the U.S could be seen from an economic standpoint. Many immigrants come to the U.S in search of jobs to provide for their family and also to send remittances back home to their native countries. Peri Giovanni and Chad Sparber (2009) analyzed that “the economies total output will increase with working immigrants who receive wages and also U.S citizens who receive wages causing the economy to expand” (p. 135-169). Another positive impact immigration has on the U.S would be the increase in military presence. It would provide the U.S with a variety of potential soldiers that are interested in honoring their new found country. Serving in the military can be represented as patriotism for immigrants, because they would be risking their lives to defend and protect the U.S as if it’s their home in pursuit to acquire citizenship.
Failure to pay taxes could be viewed as a negative impact on immigration in the U.S. Many immigrants do not pay taxes, and they may receive welfare or other forms of government assistance which is extremely unfair to tax payers. Another negative impact is exposure to health risks which coincides with health care. Immigrants are often uninsured or underinsured, and forty-three percent of noncitizens under 65 have no health insurance. While...
