Increased Immigration

More and more people are coming to the United States from a variety of countries. Especially, the number of Asian immigrants has increased rapidly in recent years. According to a statistic from the Korean embassy, about 200,000 Korean immigrants- including illegal immigrants- live in Virginia. When coming to the U.S.A., I was very surprised that so many Korean immigrants live in the this country than I expected, and there are also a lot of Korean communities such as churches, private schools, and stores selling Korean products. Why is the number of immigrants growing and why do more people want to immigrate to the U.S.A.? Each person, of course, has different reasons why they come, but common reasons can be: being free from social prejudice, successful, and getting better education.
First of all, more people coming to the U.S.A. want to be free from certain social prejudice. Historically, many Europeans immigrated to the U.S.A to achieve their freedom from governmental and religious suppression. Like the Europeans who came here in order to seek their freedom, modern immigrants also want to be free from social prejudice. For instance, for successful lives, they should graduate from a well-known or distinguished school, and get respectable jobs such as doctors, lawyers, and professors. If they could not get those achievements, they might be treated as losers. However, the immigrants believe that Americans think all the jobs are valuable and hard work is an important value of life; therefore, immigrants could work in any workplaces without stereotype- educated people shouldn’t get entry-level jobs. In addition, American people respect the value of hard work; even lower- level employees don’t need to be discouraged because of their jobs. Because of these reasons, more and more people seem to want and decide to come to the U.S.A.
