Martin Luther King, Jr. “I Have a Dream” Speech Summary Martin Luther King powerfully begins his speech by recalling to our memories those famous words spoken by Abraham Lincoln in his Emancipation Proclamation that free   all slaves “forever free” from January 1st,   But Martin Luther King says   “ 100 years later Negros still not free”. Of course this was not the end of black slavery. Slavery was not officially ended until October of 1865. Thank God for the 13 amendment of the constituent. It impacted us in a very good way. Kings speech was to hope that black and whites could live amongst each other on peace, and for every American to have the same amount of equal rights
The Pound Cake Speech was given by Bill Cosby in May 2004, at an event to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court decision.   The speech was a very interesting speech. Not just because of the topic of the speech, but because of how he presented it. For the most part it was him expressing his feeling and telling stories of how the young black people were wasting their lives and not actually bothering to learn how to be real people or learn how to speak properly. His quote in the very beginning of the speech sets up the entire speech: “David, listen to me. It’s not what he’s doing to you. It’s what you’re not doing.” What this quote is implying to this speech is the fact that black people nowadays have had everything set up for them from past events but they are now wasting all of the opportunities that they have gained. The main reason for his speech is to get people (mostly black parents) to act toward getting young black people to be more like the rest of the country in respect to education, language and motivation.
