Perception of the past

    It is a normal phenomenon nowadays when the moon eclipses the sun. This is named total solar eclipse. However, ancient Chinese could not understand and interpret correctly due to lack of astronomical knowledge. They thought the Sun have been eaten by the dog in the moon, and they though the master of the moon put a new Sun in sky when the sun appears in the sky. The ridiculous tale had been spread for thousands years1. It provides an example that perceptions of the past are heavily influenced by views of that day, and actually it happens in our modern society as well.

    From the movies “The Hearth” and “Ancient Alien”. Egyptian pyramid as an ancient grandiose project, some researches think it is very hard for modern people to move the tons of stone to the summit of pyramid with current equipment, needless to say the ancient Egyptian. They definitely believe that the extraterrestrials with superior knowledge of science and engineering landed on Earth thousands of years ago, sharing their expertise with early civilizations and forever changing the course of human history.   According to this theory, with the help of the extraterrestrials, Ancient people built several famous buildings that we regard them as unimaginable projects. Presented in the 1968 bestselling book Chariots of the Gods by Erich von Daniken, the theory of “ancient aliens” rocked people’s beliefs in mankind’s progress. Ancient cave drawings of strange creatures, remains of landing strips in Peru, and Indian texts that describe the “flying machines of the gods” were just a few of the odd archaeological artifacts cited by von Daniken as proof that ancient astronauts were well known to our ancestors. On the other hand, some researchers disagree with this theory. They insist on the realistic views about the ancient civilization.
