Currently Beijing is facing air pollution problems which may affect recruiting fresh talent and keeping the old employees. As a director of large international corporation I am responsible for this problem and today me and my colleagues are having a meeting where we will need to point current problems and present possible solutions. These solutions will be costly, but will be worth it in the long run because qualified candidates will improve the companies growth.
First one of possible solutions and maybe the first one we need to consider is offering higher base salary. This incentive will attract the recruit and get him/her to consider working in Beijing despite the air pollution problems. It also allows our company to compete with other foreign countries, trying to hire the talent that we are scouting.
Also we can consider an installation of air filters in home and in the work place. This will put the recruit in a safer working and living environment and make him/her feel at ease about working in Beijing. Offering free high quality filter masks and portable air-quality monitors which can be placed either at home or workplace or be taken with yourself can also increase our chances to hire new employees and keep the old ones. Offering a “hazard bonus” could attract new recruits to our company. This is extra pay, that would amount to 10% extra of the recruit's offered salary. Another of possible solutions which can help us to success is negotiation labor conditions such as working hours and more time off and paid trips to get away from the air pollution. Such attractive benefits for potential and old employees can help to avoid missed commercial opportunities and other missteps.
