Re: Richmond Community Services - Assistive Technology Grant Request
Dear Ms. Gibis,
Richmond Community Services is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting people with developmental disabilities to live rich full lives. Since 1938, when Ellen Richmond, a nurse at Mount Vernon Hospital, converted her home into a residence for newborns with developmental disabilities left in the maternity ward, Richmond has been a beacon of hope. From the modest beginnings of Ellen Richmond’s home, Richmond has grown into a recognized leader in the supports of people with severe disabilities providing services throughout Westchester County through its staff of 500 clinical professionals, managers, and direct care/support staff. Increasingly, people whom we serve live for decades rather than years. As such, our challenge is to expand and adapt our facilities and programs to meet their changing needs.
In addition to our twelve residential programs, Richmond serves over 120 people with developmental disabilities in three community-based rehabilitation programs. Richmond Guest Respite Services provides short-term housing to individuals who live at home but whose family members are temporarily unable to care for them due to unexpected problems...
