The “Roaring Twenties” was a time of great change, reform, adjustment, and modification of everything Americans have come to rely on. Not one part of the common life was unaffected. Exciting new events happened in sports, entertainment, fashion, politics, communication and transportation. It was the age of prohibition, the age of prosperity, and the age of downfall. During the 1920’s the United States was in an economic high point. Following World War I people had more money to spend due to the wartime boom in the economy. People were able to buy products on credit, allowing them to pay in small installments later. The use of credit allowed people more freedom to purchase items, such as refrigerators, radios, and cars, when previously they had not been able to. The 1920’s got its reputation as the “Roaring Twenties” from the economy partly because the economy was booming and people were purchasing products on credit. All this exchange of currency created a “Roaring” period of time.
Since the 1920’s was a time of great change, the most important of those changes was transportation. The most important inventions of the 1920s were the automobile. The automobile significantly changed the lives of Americans for the better. It not only improved transportation from horse and buggy, but it also gave the economy the boost that it needed to provide America with the age of prosperity that the twenties is known for. Over the first few years of the twenties, the automobile became a hit with everyone, especially younger people who seek freedom and excitement. Every household in America soon owned an automobile and it quickly became an integrated part of American life. As a result of the automobile, Americans benefitted greatly from the advantages it brought to them. Music too got a major shift in a new direction.
