Terrorism is a foreign policy concern that everyone here in the United States is aware of after the attacks of 9/11.   Creating a solid definition of terrorism is difficult because there is no widely accepted definition. Terrorism means different things to different people, and an act of terrorism somewhere could be an act of heroism somewhere else.
The U.N has been struggling for years to establish treaties to combat terrorism. It is very difficult to find common ground with different nations with different ideas and different definitions of what terrorism is. One treaty that was successful was the one in 2005 to end nuclear terrorism. Terrorism affects the entire world and the United States is the least affected. Terrorism is not just directed to destroy things and physical matter. Its main goal is to put fear and emotion in the people of that nation. Even though this is a drastic measure it is very successful. Terrorists can do this in two types of ways either domestic terrorism or international terrorism. An act of international terrorism would be the 9/11 attacks by the terrorist group AL Qaeda.
Al Qaeda was founded by the infamous Osama Bin Laden (Thompson, Paul. Originally his purpose was to support Arabs fighting in Afghanistan against the Soviet Union. Once that was accomplished then he focused on the United States. He was driven by the presence of the United States military in Saudi Arabia near the two holiest cities Mecca and Medina. He then issued a religious call “to kill the Americans and their allies-civilians and military-is an individual duty for every Muslim who can do it in any country in which it is possible to do it.” Since these words were said, there have been a number of devastating attacks led by Al Qaeda and the most famous one on the World Trade Center in Manhattan....
