The American DREAM
Meeting people from different cultures is always a privilege. In today’s society we come across many people with different background but assume that everyone acts the same or have the same beliefs amongst one another. The truth is; we don’t. We don’t share the same values, morals, beliefs, and feelings about one another. Every culture is different in their own way, which is where many people today fail to understand. Discussing different cultures with people of another country can help give you an idea of how different your own country is from another. Talking to someone from another country enables one to have more respect for that person, because you are able to learn and identify the similarities and differences between yours and one of another culture lifestyle and learn to appreciate not only yours, but also a different culture’s own way of living.
“Cultural differences are apparent from one group of people to another. Culture is based on many things that are passed on from one generation to the next” (Maxie 1). Majority of the time, people take for granted their language, beliefs, and values. “When it comes to cultural differences among people, there is no right or wrong. People should be aware of others culture and respect the differences that exist between them” (Global1,). “The United States and China are two very large countries that have cultures that are well known throughout the world. There are many differences between the United States and China, but there are many contributing factors that shape the cultures of these two countries” (Maxie 1).
To case in point, I met a student in the cafeteria who was of the Chinese nationality and had also recently moved to Maryland from China to attend Bowie State University.
