Introduction:
Publicity by definition is the notice or attention given to someone or something by the media. Publicity has blurred the meanings of words to appeal or unintentionally confuse consumers. Subsequently, 21st century first world countries have begun to mistake luxury for necessity. In the past, advertising centered around facts, bigger, better, brighter, faster. However, since the digital age, a whole new world has been suffocated with innovative advertising more centered on emotions. Our world is made of marketing by the connection companies have managed to create spiritually and emotionally with the consumers. Challenges of advertising companies are now to interest the disinterested that are blinded by all the advertising ‘clutter’ surrounding our society. The secret of all persuasion is to convince the consumers to persuade themselves.

2. Analysis of the advertisements.

Purposes of advertising now center on an invitation to a lifestyle that can only be achieved by owning a product. For example the advertisement in figure 6 is insinuating the high-adrenaline life demonstrated in the artistic abstract picture can only be achieved from Coca Cola. In the early 1900s people’s top priority was to be wealthy and superior, now in the 21st century most westerners are on the equal. Therefore, new and improved ways of advertising needed to be discovered. Their new purpose became relating with consumers on a greedy guilty pleasure type of approach. However, for guilty pleasures to be indulged, they must first be publicized.
