Third World Water Projects – Masindi Region Well Project

The Masindi region in western Uganda is subject to a plethora of weather condition; and is abundant in rainfall, but there are very few clean and safe water resources in the region. Masindi had an estimated population of 45,400 people making it the largest town by population in the Bunyoro sub-region-also one of the poorest in that it is affected most by lack of clean water sources. Masindi was the start of the water project Wells for Uganda, which is an effort brought into play by Busoga Water Trust and local non-government officials; including but not limited to cultural anthropologists and archaeologists. The Busoga Water Trust works to carryout development projects that benefit the people the most. Three operating principals guide the approach: certainty of results, extreme transparency and low overhead. The favorable geology of the region and stable political climate in Uganda, gives confidence that the work has and will continue to have a profound impact on people's lives in Masindi-thus certainty of results. The money and efforts for these well projects is mostly donated and volunteer/mission based. Each “mission” and donation is linked to a specific project not to the Well Project as a whole; this ensures that the money and time actually goes to the people and the project, and stays out of politics and government-this maintains extreme transparency and low overhead.
