A Transformational Leadership Plan for Cultural Proficiency
Cultivates an environment thatpromotes job success: As I strive to be a successful supervisor
at DLI. I lead a team of eight language instructors and I assume the leading roll sometimes inside
my department which consists of another three teaching teams totaling about 25 language
instructors. The successful supervision involves constructing a relationship between the
supervisor and supervisee that promotes job success for the supervisee. Diversity can often add
challenges to the supervisor–supervisee relationship. However, if the supervisor cultivates an
environment that allows her or him and supervisees to openly explore issues of diversity and
develop their multiculturalism, diversity can serve as a positive element in the work group.
Shape the culture of the school community: supervisors have to shape the culture of the school
community. A good supervisor not only influences the lives of supervisees, but can potentially
have a profound impact on those beyond their immediate work group by virtue of their ability to
navigate the multicultural landscape of the school. The multicultural supervisor is able to move
with ease into and out of different cultural contexts, creating a history of culture-affirming
relationships as he or she goes. In the process of constructing positive supervisory relationships,
the supervisor will add substantively to the mission of the school.

in classrooms and social settings, faculties collaborate within and across disciplines, and
colleagues work together to address student and campus issues. These interactions offer
opportunities to enrich the lives, knowledge, and personal capacity of those involved in the
exchanges, as well providing occasions to advance the work of the school. When handled well,
